It is a simple and cost effective treatment than the implant overdentures. When the patient has lost teeth but few firm teeth are present, they can be retained and used as abutments for overdentures. Retained root abutments give better retention, support and stability to the prosthesis providing proprioception which would otherwise be lost with conventional treatment. It also delays the process of complete edentulism helping in preservation of bone. It also give the patient a satisfaction of having prosthesis with his natural teeth still present.
