Bone graft is used as a filler or as a scaffold to facilitate bone formation and wound healing. They are usually done to treat ridge defects which can caused by trauma, infection,, congenital malformation or surgical procedures. The purpose of the bone grafting procedure is to maintain a contour, eliminate the dead space and reduce the post-operative infection.
It is surgical procedure which replaces the missing bone with help of bone from patient’s own body, artificial or synthetic bone. As the natural bone grows it replaces the graft material completely which results in fully integrated new bone.
